Western School District

Western School District receives the 2004
Education Excellence Award from Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB)
for exemplary school programs.
Out of approximately 200 Michigan public schools who entered, Western
School District was chosen as one of 32 school districts to be honored at
a Celebration of School Excellence award ceremony on May 4, 2004 in
Lansing and at a Legislative Tribute at the Capitol.

Carol Mohlenhoff, Career Prep/Community Service Coordinator entered the
competition to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the students in
the district. In 1998 the district started Project LEAPS (Learning
for Everyone - Action for Partnerships and Service) to encourage students
to become involved in community service. Combined community service
hours totaled 12,986 for the 2002-2003 school year.
