School Bus Rider Rules

As we begin another school year, it is the goal of the Transportation Department to provide the safest, most efficient and enjoyable ride possible.  To do this we need the full cooperation of students, parents and school officials. Riding a school bus is a privilege which may be denied for improper bus conduct. We urge parents to review the school bus rider rules with your child(ren).

        Responsibilities of the pupil:

        •  To observe classroom conduct (except for ordinary conversation) while getting on or off the bus
           and while riding the bus.

        •  To obey the driver cheerfully and to report promptly to the building principal when instructed to
           do so by the driver.

        •  To be in the place designated both morning and evening ready to board the bus at the
designated time. The driver is responsible for the maintenance of the schedule and cannot wait
           for tardy pupils.

        •  To stay off the traveled roadway at all times while waiting for the b u s.

        •  To wait until the bus has come to a complete stop before attempting to get on or off.

        •  To cross the traveled highway if necessary after leaving the bus in the following manner:

              1. Make certain that the bus is stationary.

              2. Move to the front of the bus within the sight of the driver and wait for the proper signal for
                  crossing.

              3. Upon signal from the driver, look both right and left and proceed across the highway in front
of the bus. Walk, not run, when crossing the highway.

        •  Keep hands and head inside the bus at all times.

        •  In form the driver when absence is expected from school.

        •  Report to the driver at once any damage to the bus that is observed.

        •  Help keep the bus clean, sanitary and orderly.

        •  Eating and drinking are not permitted on the bus.

        •  Pupils are not permitted to bring live animals, glass containers or bottles on the bus.

        •  Large musical instruments are permitted as long as they may be held on the lap or placed
           under the seat.

        •  There shall be no profanity, swearing or filthy language on the bus. This rule applies to
all persons, young or adult, who ride the bus.

        • Pupils are to board only their regularly assigned stop. When requesting a change in the bus
stop or route, the pupil must obtain a transportation pass from the school office.

           Responsibilities of the Parents:

         • To ensure that their children arrive at the bus stop on time in the morning, 5 minutes before
            the bus arrives.

         • To provide necessary protection of their children when going to and from the bus stop.

         • To accept joint responsibility with the school authorities for proper conduct of their children.

         • To make reasonable efforts to understand and cooperate with those responsible for pupil
            transportation.

         • To make sure that an adult is visible for drivers to release MSR, Young-S’s or Kindergarten
students if there is no sibling with them.
