March is Reading
Month!!! |
The Cold Weather
Hasn’t Kept Warner Scientists Inside
Our 5th graders braved the cold and built two
Quin-zhees. We made these to learn about survival and also used them
for science investigations. We did science lessons under the
guidance of Miss Avery, our student teacher from SAU. Our class took
the temperature of the air and snow both inside and outside the
Quin-zhees. Some students gave up their recess and school time to
work on the Quin-zhees and give tours to lower grade levels. |

During
Reading Month every grade level sets a reading goal for each week of
the month. Our 5th grade goal this year is to read at least 150
minutes a week! Students can read their Book Club books, library
books, or any other type of reading material. If they enjoy reading
magazines or the newspaper that is fine also! Please remind your
child that spending an hour searching for objects in an I Spy book
doesn’t count as an hour of reading!
There are lots of activities going on throughout the month. Some of
these are listed on the “Special Dates” section other information
was sent home in a separate note. |

The more you read the better you
read, so read, read, read!!
EarthWorks:
On February 27th Warner 5th graders had an awesome time learning
about different animals and the ecosystems that they live in at
EarthWorks in Taylor, MI. Students enjoyed the educational, hands-on
experience! Thanks to all our parent volunteers. You’re the best!! |

Classroom News: |
Math: In math we are working on exponents
and negative numbers. We are planning to take a test March 13.Our
next unit is on fractions and ratios.
Social Studies: Our focus has been on the Constitution and
how our government was formed. We will continue to study government
and civics this month! |
|
Reading: Our current theme in reading is “From the Prairie to
the Sea”. This theme fits well with our reading month theme, “Wild
West”! We have been reading about westward expansion in both fiction
and non-fiction stories. |
Science: We are learning about Simple Machine by working with
Lego kits. The students love the hands-on designing and
experimenting with their own machines. We are also learning about
sound using Science Court software! |
