Service Hours
Just a reminder
that in order to receive an award, community service hours need to be
recorded by each student and handed in no later than the last
Friday in April. Please note the number of hours
required in order to receive an award. Remember, service hours are
not mandatory.

Parents, please
remember that any activity in which your child is involved in
volunteer time (non-paid) qualifies toward community
service hours. This includes service activities that you do as a
family or church and scouting activities in which your child gives
time to others. Examples are: visiting a nursing home, raking a
neighbor’s yard, baking cookies for a shut-in or taking care of a
neighbor’s pet while they are away. Students must record the number
of hours involved and also fill in all the information required on the
service learning record forms. These forms can be obtained from the
school secretary. All forms must be signed by an adult who observed
the activity. The completed forms should be given to the school
secretary. Hours will be recorded and at the end of the year, awards
will be given to those students who have accumulated enough service
hours to qualify for an award.
You are strongly
encouraged to work together with your child in doing community
service. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend “quality time” with
your children showing them that in giving to others, they will find
joy and fulfillment.
If
you have any questions concerning community service hours or the
awards, please call Carol Mohlenhoff, WSD Career Prep/Community
Service Coordinator, at 841-8855.
