Warner is a K-5 elementary school located in the village of Spring Arbor and within walking distance of Spring Arbor University, a fully accredited four year liberal arts institution. Following nine months of complete renovation and expansion in 1995-96, the original four-room building has now expanded to include the current eighteen classrooms made-up of sixteen regular education classrooms, an activity room for Spanish, art and music instruction, and a special education resource room. All classrooms are now equipped with 2-5 computers, phones, TV’s, VCR’s and are fiber-optically networked building and district-wide. The building also contains a multipurpose room and a gymnasium. Centrally located in the building is a media center comprised of a 11,000 item library, a computerized WeatherNet weather center, and a 28 station computer lab that is supervised by a full time library clerk and an elementary media specialist.
Warner is staffed by 33 dedicated
professionals and paraprofessionals and has maintained North Central
accreditation since 1991. Classroom core instruction in grades
kindergarten through five is guided by a district curriculum directly
aligned to the state of Michigan's core curriculum. Warner
also provides parents a choice between a half day and an all day
kindergarten program. Students are also offered additional services such
as Reading Recovery, first grade small group writing instruction, Title I
support in all core areas, mentoring and tutoring programs, after-school
programs in literacy and computer instruction, speech therapy,
occupational therapy, physical therapy and social work/counseling.
