    Spring 2005 Plants

Students burned excess brush to reduce the fire hazard and clean up the area by the pond.

Brush Burning

When the outdoor lab was first established, the DNR and soil conservation district were encouraging the planting of honeysuckle and multiflora rose for windbreaks and as homes for wildlife. They were widely planted, but have, unfortunately, now become a nuisance. They
crowd out native plants and have overgrown several of our trails.
Volunteers are needed to cut, chop, dig, or poison these nuisance plants. If interested, call 841-8212 for a trail assignment.

A new pavilion was constructed by the split rail fence in the pond area.  Thank you to the many volunteers that helped with this project.

MAJOR PROJECTS COMPLETED 2005 - National Youth Service Day, where my classes planted conifers, cleaned up the picnic woods, and installed posts for signs.

This photo shows the cleared woods which will be a site for classes, staging of cross country meets, a place for athletes to rest out of the sun, and a future classroom pavilion.

The trails are showing real progress as of April 2005
