UNIFIED ARTS

General Shop                                       Length:  36 weeks                                Credit:    1.0                           Grade level:           9, 10, 11, 12

This course reviews the use of hand tools and teaches the use of and safety with materials, power tools and equipment in woodworking and metalworking.  The first semester is spent learning about the materials, tools and equipment through bookwork, lectures and tests.  The second semester is spent working with the materials, tools and equipment in the following areas: woodworking, metalworking, foundry welding, sheet metal and small engine.  The student must pass the first semester to be able to take the second semester.  The students will have about two to three weeks to do a work project of their choosing, which will combine the use of some of the aforementioned areas.

                                                                                                               Prereq:    General Shop.  May be selected more than once with instructor permission.

 

In this class the student may work in one or more of the following areas: woodworking, metalworking, foundry welding, or power mechanics (small engines).  This course may be repeated several times for additional credit.

This course will permit students to gain proficiency in certain areas or explore several areas.  Certain exercises will be required to determine the student's ability before placement in a new area.  The grade the student earns will be dependent upon the quality and quantity of work as per agreement of contract between teacher and student.  A bill of materials and payment for materials will be required before commencement of each project exercise.

Basic Drafting is designed to introduce the student to the field of Drafting and Design.  The course is divided into three major areas: the first nine weeks are spent learning to use the necessary tools and equipment, the second nine weeks consists of machine drawing and design, and the third and fourth nine weeks are devoted to Architectural Drafting and Design.  This course is a year-long course and the student may not take second semester without taking first semester.  AutoCAD Light will be used in this course.  This course is open to all students.

 

Architectural Drafting        Architectural Drafting                       Length:  36 weeks                                Credit:    1.0                           Grade level:           10, 11, 12

                                                                                                                   Prereq:    "C" or better in Basic Drafting.   (May be taken more than once).

 

This course deals with home design and drawing along with a section in bridge design, drawing and model building.  The student will design a home and make a series of drawings of the home.  They will also design a bridge to certain specifications, make all necessary drawings, and build a model of the bridge.  AutoCAD 2000 will be used in this course.  The course is open to all qualified students.

Integrated Math will cover topics that will prepare the student for algebra along with ideas that are emphasized on the MEAP.
