Thursday, March 10,
the Western High School Physical Education Department was pleased to
welcome representatives from The Governor's Council on Physical Fitness,
Health, and Sport, The Michigan Fitness Foundation, the Exemplary Physical
Education Curriculum, and the Ping Golf Company.
Western High School was selected as the Michigan
secondary level example of the Exemplary Physical Education Curriculum in
action, and a Detroit school for the elementary level observation. Western
is a k-12 EPEC school district. Our visitors came to Miss Christine Lake's
seventh hour Physical Education 9 class and watched her enthusiastic, hard
working ninth graders flawlessly execute the paces of their EPEC
Volleyball lesson which included instruction in the four EPEC domains:
fitness, motor skills, knowledge, and social/personal skills. They even
received a standing ovation from the visitors !
The Ping Golf Company sent a representative to Michigan to see the EPEC in
action. This company is looking for quality physical education/fitness
programs to support. As a result of the March 10 observations, the
Michigan staff has been invited to Tucson, Arizona to present the EPEC
program to the Ping Golf Company.
"We were honored to have Chris Lake and her students showcase the EPEC
program for our visitor from Arizona. Ms. Lake is an excellent teacher and
the students in her class were awesome. Western school district should be
very proud of the quality physical education
experience provided to students. Thanks again."
