Here at Western we offer Drama Club for our students interested in acting, designing and building sets and costume design.  They perform three plays each school year (more than any other school in Jackson County), one in the fall, the One Act Play at the Mid Michigan Theatre Arts Festival in February and one in the spring.

This year's Drama Awards will be held on Wednesday, May 16th in the
High School Cafeteria at 4:00p.m. Please bring a dessert to share
and feel free to dress up in costume. See you there!

Western High School presented Bye Bye Birdie, a musical comedy by Michael Stewart, Charles Strouse and Lee Adams, on April 27-29. The story centers around rock and roll icon and Elvis clone, Conrad Birdie, who has been drafted and is on his way to the army. As a publicity stunt, Conrad will deliver "One Last Kiss" to a teenage fan club president, Kim MacAfee, on the Ed Sullivan show before he leaves.
Meanwhile Conrad's manager, Albert Peterson, struggles to break free from the clutches of his doting mother, while his faithful secretary and love interest, Rose Alvarez, is running out of patience.

Western High School Theatre Arts Department presented Dracula, Brahm Stoker's classic tale of good versus evil, personified in the character of the legendary vampire, Count Dracula. This three-act version was adapted to the stage by Stephen Hotcher. The play opens with young Jonathan Harker in the castle of Count Dracula. Plagued by strange nightmares, Harker is eager to conclude his real estate transaction with the Count and return to England. Brave servant girl Gretchen is able to convince Jonathan of the Count's true identity and together they attempt to kill Dracula. Unfortunately, Dracula escapes to England, vowing revenge upon Jonathan.
Act II introduces several key characters, as Jonathan's bride, Mina struggles to save the soul of her friend, Lucy, who has fallen under Count Dracula's control. Dr. VanHelsing and Lucy's fianc, Arthur, join the battle, but they are unable to save her from the Count.
In the third act, Dracula has fled back to Transylvania, with Dr. VanHelsing and Jonathan in pursuit. Mina accompanies them, but she has been bitten by the Count and is struggling to remain human. An army of vampires floods the stage as the climactic confrontation between Count Dracula and Dr. VanHelsing unfolds.
