The instrument area has four categories: woodwinds,
brass, percussion, and
jazz
equipment.
1.
Woodwinds contain instruments which primarily students
own, and instruments schools provide. An appropriate
inventory is one with the following provided by the district:
*school piccolos available for 8th
grade and two high school bands (3 in all)
*2 bass clarinets available for
the 7th, 8th, concert, and
symphonic bands (8 in all)
* 1 contrabass clarinet available
for the concert and symphonic bands
*1 alto saxophone available for
the 6th, 7th, 8th, concert,
symphonic, and jazz bands (6 in all)
*1 tenor saxophone available for
the 7th and 8th grade bands, and 2 tenor
saxophones available for the concert, symphonic, and jazz
bands (8 in all)
*1 baritone sax available for the
7th, 8th, concert, symphonic, and jazz
bands. (5 in all)
*1 oboe available for the 6th,
7th, 8th grade bands, and 2 available
for the concert and symphonic bands (7 in all)
* 1 English horn available for the
symphonic band
*2 bassoons available for the 7th,
8th, concert, and symphonic bands (8 in all)
*1 contrabassoon available for the
symphonic band

The brass section contains instruments which primarily
students own, and instruments schools provide. An appropriate
inventory is one with the following provided by the district:
*2 fluegelhorns for the jazz band
*1 piccolo trumpet for the
symphonic band
*2 cornets for the 6th,
7th, 8th, concert, symphonic, and jazz
bands (12 in all)
*4 French horns for the 6th,
7th, 8th, concert, and symphonic bands
(20 in all)
*10 mellophones for the high
school marching band
*3 trombones for the 6th,
7th, 8th, concert and symphonic bands
(15 in all)
*Bass trombones for the symphonic
and jazz bands (2 in all)
*2 baritones for the 6th,
7th, 8th, concert and symphonic bands
(10 in all)
*2 ¾ size tubas for the 6th
grade band, 2 ¾ size tubas for the 7th grade band,
1 ¾ size and 1 full size tuba for the 8th grade
band, and 3 full size tubas for the concert and symphonic
bands (5 ¾ size and 7 full size tubas in all)
*6 marching sousaphones

The percussion section requires an inventory for
varying
musical repertoire, and includes:
*2 concert snare drums for the 6th
and 7th grade bands, 1 concert snare for the 8th
grade bands, and 2 concert snare drums for the concert and
symphonic bands (5 in all)
*1 concert bass drum for all
grades
*2 sets of crash cymbals for the 6th,
7th, and 8th grade bands,
and 2 sets of crash cymbals for
the concert and symphonic bands (4 sets in all)
*5 high-tension marching snare
drums
*6 tuned marching bass drums
*2 tenor drum sets
*2 sets of marching cymbals
*1 small suspended cymbal
*1 large suspended cymbal
*1 marimba
*3 xylophones
*4 timpani
*1 set of concert chimes
*2 sets of bells
*1 vibraphone
*appropriate mallets, hammers, and
sticks for all instruments
*appropriate stands for all
percussion equipment
*mallet and percussion equipment
wall-hung storage,
with spots designated for all
mallets and other equipment
*auxiliary equipment including:
maracas, claves,
gong, triangle, woodblock,
ratchet, guiro, whip crack,
temple blocks, finger cymbals,
vibraslap, windchimes
*1 drumset for use with jazz band,
others when needed
*2 pianos (tuned annually) for
accompanists and jazz band
4. The jazz
band uses amplified instruments:
*electric bass

Lockable storage units should be
available for all student and school-owned instruments. |
