The music inventory is the curricular resource for the instrumental music classes, and has four major areas: middle school, high school, jazz, and storage (music) and (student music).

 

1.     The middle school music inventory should include:

   A.   Appropriate method books and full band music for 6th grade band (recommended grade
         ½ to grade 1)

   B.    Appropriate method books and full band music for 7th grade  (recommended grade 1 to
          grade 2)

   C.   Appropriate method books and music for 8th grade (recommended grade 1 ½ to grade
          3)

   D.   Appropriate Solo/Ensemble selections for the following categories:
     i.
     solos (flute, oboe, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, cornet, French horn, baritone
            trombone, tuba, snare drum, xylophone)

     ii.
    ensembles (duets, trios, quartets, quintets, instrument choirs, for woodwind, brass, an
            percussion groupings)

 

2.     The high school music inventory should include:

   A.   Appropriate marching band selections for marching and athletic band performances

   B.    Appropriate method books and full band music for Concert Band (recommended grade
          2 ½ to grade 4)

   C.   Appropriate method books and full band music for Symphonic Band (recommended
          grade 3 to grade 5)

   D.   Appropriate Solo/Ensemble selections for:

      i.     solos (flute, oboe, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, cornet, French horn, baritone, trombone
             tuba, snare drum, xylophone)

      ii.     ensembles (duets, trios, quartets, quintets, instrument choirs, for woodwind, brass, a
             percussion groupings)

 

3.     The jazz music inventory should include:

   A.    Appropriate method books about jazz theory and improvisation

   B.    Full ensemble Jazz standards from all eras of history (Dixieland, ragtime, swing, bop, Latin
        funk, stage ensemble rock, and fusion)

   C.    Jazz combo music for small group performance

 

4.   The library storage area for music should maximize available space and be able to house the aforementioned types of music in a safe, convenient atmosphere.

 

5.   The storage area for student music folders should be sufficient for each member in a performing group, including: marching band slots, 6th grade band folio cabinet, 7th grade band folio cabinet, 8th grade band folio cabinet, concert band folio cabinet, symphonic band folio cabinet, and jazz band folio cabinet. Full music selections should have a labeled box, indicating title, composer, type of music, and number for inventory purposes.
