Private Lessons
There is
nothing you can do as a parent that will help your child’s
music education more than signing up for private lessons. Band
provides an outlet for performance and is very important. Private
lessons address individual needs and will benefit the student even
more. Each student can learn to appreciate music for a lifetime by
participating in band, and can become a lifetime musician by adding
private lessons.
Private lessons are one-one-one sessions with a competent
instructor
on the child’s instrument. They are normally a half-hour in length
and are scheduled for the same time and day each week. The half-hour
session is an opportunity for the child to receive guidance in all
aspects of performance, and to direct the student in his or her
practice. Fundamentals of tone production, embouchure, technique,
and many other issues are covered in depth in a private lesson. A
private lesson instructor will be someone who has the knowledge and
skill to appropriately guide the student. This could be a college
student, or a professional or semi-professional musician.
Private lessons generally cost $15 for each week of instruction. The
Western Band Boosters have allocated some money to help offset this
expense. Please call Mrs. McInchak at 517-841-8810 or email
mcinchak@westernschools.org if you have any questions.
