Gold Team - 7th Grade Language

How do I enter class?

Monday, Wednesday, Friday:
Walk quietly to your assigned seat and begin reading.

Tuesday and Thursday:
Walk quietly to your assigned seat and begin writing in your journal.

Is there a special way to write my name on my papers when I turn them in?  Yes.

Write your name, the hour of the class, the date, and the assignment on the top right corner of the paper as modeled below:

                                                                                                            Mary Smith
                                                                                                            August 24, 2005
                                                                                                            Language, 4th hour
                                                                                                            P. 34, questions 1-8

How and where do I turn in my papers?  The stackers are on the table in front of my desk and are labeled for each hour. Please put your papers in the correct stacker. If a paper is handed in with no name on it, I will place it in the No Name stacker.

What should I do if I have a question?  Please raise your hand if you have a question. Do not flag me down or jump up and down and yell. Do not swarm my desk with questions. Stay in your seat and raise your hand. I can help everyone better this way.

May I go to the bathroom during class time?  I prefer that you go between classes or at lunch time. If is necessary for you to go during class, you must have your own assignment book signed by the teacher. You are allowed three bathroom passes from this class per marking period.

How am I graded in your class?  Each homework assignment is given a letter grade that is posted in my computer grading program.. A missing assignment is worth 0 points. With this system it is better to turn in an assignment for half credit rather than take a zero. Extra credit is for the student who has done his/her very best and wants a chance to do more. It is not accepted for credit unless all regular assignments have been finished and handed in. Test grades are based on a possible score of 100.

What if I lose an assignment?  Please ask for another as soon as possible. I will be glad to give you a new one. I, however, reserve the right to say no when it has been more than a week since we did the assignment.

What happens if I don’t turn a paper in on time?  Full credit will be given to late work due to absences; however, the student’s deadline for each assignment will be equal to the number of days absent. No late papers will be accepted after the test on that unit.

What if I get home and I do not understand how to do an assignment?  It is your job during class to ask questions so you can complete the task. If for some reason you are stuck, call a fellow classmate or ask a parent. If you are still stuck, see me before school starts. This will give you time to get it done before class starts.

What if I don’t have a pencil?  Please figure this out before you enter class. You may borrow from a friend or buy a pencil from the machines by the office or from the school store in the library. Do not walk from person to person to find a pencil. It is rude and disruptive.

What if I forget other materials like my books or an assignment?  You will not go to your locker during class. You will go without your materials and take late credit for the assignment. It is very important to be organized. Please make sure you have folders for each class and they are labeled. On rare occasions, I may let you get something from your locker; however, this will count as “Not Prepared.”

What if I want a new reading novel from the library or the class baskets?  Take care of this before class begins. Occasionally you may wish to borrow from the book basket located on the table in front of my desk. My goal is to change the selection in the basket weekly.

How do I leave the class when the bell rings?  The teacher (not the bell) dismisses the class. All students are to be in their seats and the room is to be as orderly and clean as it was when you entered. I will do my best to warn students to clean up five minutes before the bell rings.
