Welcome to the Western Middle School Web site. WMS
is a great place to learn! I also hope that our students
have fun here as well, because I do! WMS has lots of great
academic programs that are unique to us (Midwest Academic Talent Search,
National Junior Honor Society, Academic Celebration, etc.)
and lots of great activity programs that again are unique to the
"Panthers" (Fun Nights, numerous clubs, sports, Adopt-a
Highway, etc.). Western Middle School was one of the first twelve middle schools in the state of Michigan to be fully accredited by the North Central Association, the "Cadillac" of school accreditation and an assurance to parents and students that we continue to meet the highest possible standards. We regularly have among the highest MEAP scores for Jackson County. We have over 200 computers totally networked in all classrooms with 2 computer labs and a technology lab constantly in use by students. In addition, a majority of our classrooms have 7-9 computers available for teachers to incorporate technology based centers in their teaching. Our music program is without peer ( having over 2/3 of our seventh and eighth graders involved in a regionally-recognized vocal/instrumental program). Organized by teams, our teachers work with students during the day, after school and even during their lunch periods to ensure success. Each student receives an academic grade and an effort comment from each class. Classes are vibrant and focused! A superb encore program supplements the basics at WMS in all three grades. Our office staff is both capable, extremely personable and student-oriented. Both administrators regularly publish their home phone numbers to encourage parent and student contact.
