Analysis of data
     Information from Receiving Teachers
In a survey of ninth grade teachers regarding last year's eighth graders, several have indicated a concern with the students lacking basic skills especially in the are of writing.  They seem to have a hard time answering essay questions.  They don't answer the whole question, and they find it difficult to recognize a question when it doesn't have a question mark at the of it.  One teacher notes that the current ninth grade seems to be weaker than most in that they lack an understanding of the constitution, current events and history.  An overall concern was that as a group the students are very disrespectful and defy authority.

     Information from Receiving Counselors
Counselors report that this year's ninth grade students are adjusting to the rigors of high school.  They are comfortable seeking the services offered such as career, academic, and personal counseling.  This is atypical for ninth graders who usually avoid the counseling offices.

     Information from Students
A survey was given to our current ninth graders (last year's 8th grade).  Out of 136 returned surveys, only 18 students (13%) gave us an A in preparing them to write about the curriculum.  Although 67% of our students recalled having a grade of a B or better in social studies last year, our MEAP scores do not reflect this achievement.  In science, 31% of our students remember earning a C grade their previous year.  Students admit that the material was challenging.
