Implications for Action Follow-Up of Former Students
Student Performance Goals
Most of the receiving teachers surveyed felt that the 8th graders came to
them unprepared in writing, social studies and science. Students
tend to struggle with essay writing and basic skills.
Non-Student Data
No Implications.
Other Data Needed
None at this time.
Clarifying Goals
We must improve our student's ability to write across the curriculum.
We must improve their abilities in the areas of social studies and
science.
Interventions
No sub groups were identified by this data.
Other Actions Needed
We need to continue our discussion with our high school colleagues about
how prepared our ninth graders are. Their feedback was very helpful.
Inservice time would be an excellent opportunity for the middle school
teachers to talk with the ninth grade teachers. The discussion must
include suggestions for how our eighth grader can come better prepared to
ninth grade.
Data Collection Instruments
We selected the following instruments to collect data regarding Student
Data:
M.E.A.P.
Metropolitan Achievement Test
Assess 2 Learn
Analysis of Data
M.E.A.P.
In analyzing the data of the social studies test we found that our scores
have been consistently below the state average. We have particular
concern with the extended response portion of the test.
In reflection of the science test scores over the past several years, we
found that our scores are slightly above the state average. However,
they have shown no growth and remain stagnant.
The number of students proficient in writing is significantly below the
state average. In addition, the extended responses in all subjects
tested are well below satisfactory.
Metropolitan Achievement Test
Writing is at or below grade equivalency. The scores show a modest
increase from 5th grade yet still are below grade level. Science and
social studies are at or above grade equivalency, yet tend to remain
stagnant.
Assess 2 Learn
Assess 2 Learn is a Western School District created software tool designed
to track student achievement across grade levels. In the first trial
use of this test by sixth graders (Spring 2002), 15 of the 39 objectives
tester were below 50% proficiency. The seventh grade results showed
6 of the 31 objectives to be below 50% proficiency. At the time of
this writing, tests were not yet developed in language and science.
During the 2002-2003 school year, tests will be given in all core subject
areas. Since this is a new tool, we are not able to accurately
synthesize information. |
