STUDENT DRIVING AND PARKING REGULATIONS

All students with a valid Michigan Drivers License will be allowed to drive to and from school provided they follow the established rules and guidelines developed cooperatively by students, professional staff and administration.

Students who wish to drive automobiles or other motor vehicles to school are required to park in designated, off-street parking areas.

All student-operated motor vehicles driven to school and parked on school premises must be in safe operating condition and each driver must certify that the vehicle for which a car permit is requested is legally and properly insured.

  1. Any student desiring to drive to school MUST complete an application available from the Assistant Principal’s office.  This application shall identify the motor vehicle(s) to be driven, ensure that it is in safe operating condition, is covered by Michigan no-fault insurance, and in the case of students under 18, have the parent or guardian signature.

  1. Upon approval, a permit may be issued and displayed in the motor vehicle in a designated manner.

  1. Student’s application and parent approval of the application is sufficient reason for the issuing of a permit.  Misuse of the motor vehicle will result in one or more of the following:

Verbal and/or written reprimands to the student, notification to parents, removal of
driving permission for a period of time of seeking a warrant from a law enforcement
            agency.

  1. Continuing to drive an automobile without a permit will be handled in a disciplinary manner consistent with other violations of school regulations.

  1. Motor vehicles are to be used only in driving to and from school and at lunch.  Students may not drive to the Career Center and may not transport other students.

  1. Any operation of the motor vehicle in an unsafe or imprudent manner will result in removal of permit and further possible action.

  1. Failure to comply with these rules will result in removal of driving privileges and disciplinary action including detention and suspension.
